Après 15 ans de recherche et développement au sein d'Air Liquide et de Waga Energy, la technologie WAGABOX® combine la filtration membranaire et la distillation cryogénique pour isoler le méthane des autres composants du gaz de décharge (azote, oxygène, dioxyde de carbone et autres impuretés). Elle produit un biométhane de haute qualité qui peut être injecté dans le réseau de gaz pour alimenter les particuliers, les entreprises ou même les véhicules. La technologie WAGABOX® a un double impact sur la réduction des émissions de gaz à effet de serre : elle réduit la quantité de méthane libérée dans l'atmosphère et fournit une énergie propre, locale et renouvelable qui se substitue au gaz d'origine fossile.
Waga Energy exploite 23 unités WAGABOX® dans le monde qui alimentent environ 98 000 foyers en gaz propre, local et renouvelable, évitant ainsi le rejet de 100 000 tonnes de CO2eq chaque année. 13 autres unités sont actuellement en construction.
