About

Due to global imbalances in trade routes, when a container arrives at a port, it usually needs to be repositioned empty at another point of demand to be refilled with another commodity. The sector's overall data are convincing: global empty container traffic accounts for 25% of the total. In addition, sea containers spend half their useful life empty in depots, causing a major problem in port cities that need large areas to store them. The final impact of repositioning empty containers is 20 billion dollars per year in cost (Handbook of Ocean Container Transport Logistics, 2015), and additional emissions of 200 million tons of CO2 per year. The empty containers problem is persistent since the invention of the maritime container and become bigger with the growth of the global economy. At the present we are in a huge logistic crisis, due in a big part to the problems to empty container repositioning transport, resulting in a huge container shortage in the demanded areas. Zbox is a disruptive foldable container that optimize the impact of empty containers. We hold the patents of a new foldable container design with the same features than the standard container. However, when it’s empty, we can fold it and we can pack 5 containers in the same space as one.
