BRIDGE is an Italian digital freight forwarder that simplifies the daily processes of customers and carriers by providing a disruptive digital solution for the creation, management and analysis of Transport Requests. The objectives of digitizing a highly old-style industry and at the same time optimizing the fleet of selected partners make BRIDGE a highly reliable and at the same time cost-effective choice. All with the objective to minimize CO2 emissions, through data analysis and green projects, for more efficient and sustainable logistics. On a daily basis 20% of the EU freight capacity is empty due to the lack of optimization of routes and space of transportation vehicles. This main problem is supported by market fragmentation, analogic processes and a big number of intermediaries in the process. From carriers point of view, market is very fragmented, pointing out a specific need of loading capacity supply optimization. In Italy 93% of transportation companies own between 1-20 trucks, and most of the time the owner is also a driver himself. Using our platform they are able to get loads when they are empty that are the most suitable for them. The development of BRIDGE 2.0 with the implementation of our optimization algorithms and machine learning will allow our trucks to minimize empty space and maximise profitability. In the medium-long term, we see implementation of autonomous trucks in hub-to-hub loads which will require drivers only for last mile or loading/unloading operations. This will consequentely lead to a decrease of small truck companies due to lack of competitiveness. Also intermodal transport will increase its share among types of trasportation, as also being our main target for routes over 400km. It also need to be said that intermodal does not allow flexibility, it will be competitive only for loading and unloading points close to rail terminals, so depending on the route road transport may still be preferred.
