Until today, delivering items to family, friends or strangers required the services provided by a courier or a public agency. Now, with SiWeGO, it is possible to get the same services from private citizens and professional couriers who wish to optimize their resources, be social, and protect the environment. SiWeGO is a web platform (a website and an app designed for smartphones and tablets) that connects people who have combined needs in the field of mobility and do not know each other: people who wish to send something and people who wish to carry and deliver goods. A new type of economy has emerged over the last few years, an economy that is not based on the ownership of goods but rather on the access to goods and services, the so-called “sharing economy”, which opened a new chapter of economic development that has been defined as the “age of access”. In this kind of economy, owners of goods decide to place them in a “network” that allows for their shared use, strengthening their efficiency and providing a concrete economic benefit to both owners and users. This phenomenon was made possible by the increasing and more widespread presence of mobile devices, as well as by the status of almost “perennial” connection of users to the worldwide network. All this has led to constant growth in e-commerce, since the continuous exposure to the opportunities offered by the Web allowed consumers to access a wider range of products and services. The growth in e-commerce caused a substantial increase in the market of online advertisement and the record figures achieved in the fields of e-commerce and online advertisement had an impact also on the real world since purchased goods must be delivered to their rightful owner. SiWeGO has been established in this context in order to seize these emerging opportunities: a virtual platform that allows private users to share their vehicles and routes to carry and deliver goods.
