About

Qaptis, an EPFL spin-off founded in 2021, is a startup focused on the decarbonization of the freight transport sector through a patented CO2 capture technology. The technology selectively captures up to 90% of CO2 emissions from heavy-duty vehicles like trucks and ships, liquifying the CO2 for recycling within local ecosystems. Qaptis leverages cutting-edge technologies from EPFL, promoting the transition to a low-carbon future without requiring major changes to vehicles or infrastructure, leading to lower upfront costs for customers and rapid deployment. The technology uses the heat from exhaust gases as an energy source and combines efficient heat recovery with system downscaling to achieve impressive CO2 capture rates. This innovation has been encouraged and is currently financed by various companies, from Swiss freight forwarders like Friderici to Japanese multinational.
