Low Impact Technologies Pty. Ltd. is D&D Manufacturing LLC's (www.h20.solar) exclusive licensee for manufacture and supply of breakthrough globally patented Concentrated Solar Multi-Effect Water Purification/Distillation & Dewatering (CSMED) Technology in all global regions outside the USA. This Energy & C02-e Saving Technology can help to supply pure water to where there is need (e.g. to rural, regional and remote communities where access to clean water is unavailable, or unreliable and to townships, farmers, industry, municipalities, environmental rehabilitation projects, mining/mine remediation projects, etc.). CSMED technology can be utilised to provide clean/supplemental water supplies for larger towns and cities. Demand for, and pressure on, precious fresh water resources can thus be reduced. The CSMED technology can clean, purify/distil water from a range of otherwise unusable water sources, including agriculture and industry wastewater, contaminated water (including mine tailings dams). brackish bore and saline/hyper-saline water, seawater. recycled water, mining and sewage sludge. Depending on water/wastewater/sludge and irradiance availability, each modular CSMED unit can produce around 30,000 litres of pure water per day. Units can be integrated into larger processing systems, or into large multi-unit fields, where large and very large volumes of wastewater, contaminated water or sludge needs to be processed. For example, a major project in the Tulare Basin in California plans installation of up to 2500 integrated units in the first of several fields to process agriculture wastewater (17,000ppm to 12ppm) to produce an estimated 28GL pure water per annum. Some harvesting of salts is also proposed. The Dewatering units can be added at the end of a line of Distillation units, or to the back end of existing reverse osmosis systems (at the point where reverse osmosis membranes are unable to process) to further extract pure water and take heavy brine concentrate or sludge back to zero liquid discharge (ZLD), or various percentages of moisture content, as required. This enables reduction of volumes of waste/toxic waste brine concentrate or sludge residue which requires handling, transport and safe storage/environmentally sustainable disposal, along with reductions in costs associated with handling, transport and safe storage/disposal. Distillation and Dewatering can also be utilised for biosolids management. Producing clean water from recycled and otherwise unusable water sources reduces demand for volumes of fresh water, along with reducing transport footprints and costs. Fresh water resources can be preserved. Remineralisation at end of processing is determined by end use. Green Hydrogen Energy Production could utilise this technology as electrolysis requires availability of distilled water. This Solar Thermal Water Purification/Distillation technology could provide distilled water, for example, by purifying contaminated, brackish/saline, recycled industry wastewater or municipal effluent, on-site, thereby reducing demand for fresh water and hydrogen transport footprints, constraints and costs. For example, one unit can produce enough distillate to produce in excess of 3,500 kgs of Green Hydrogen per day. Manufacture of the parabolic troughs can utilise available e-waste; the troughs are 100% recyclable. The CSMED units were designed to be containerised for easy transport and to be able to operate off grid and in remote locations. (Alternative energy sources can be used where overnight/24 hour processing is required.) There are no membranes. Operation and maintenance do not require high skills sets. The units have been assessed to withstand sustained high winds (to force 3 hurricanes in the US). Recycling and utilising otherwise unusable water/wastewater/effluents to provide clean, safe water to local communities can help to facilitate better health outcomes, local food production, development of local business and industry/local economies, drought resilience and future water security, whilst also reducing demand on precious and possibly limited freshwater resources and enabling improved custodianship of natural habitats and local natural water sources. Communities can be supported to become more resilient in the face of external shocks and climate change.
