Swedish Neutral has developed the Ground Fault Neutralizer, a protection system for power lines with world leading performance that can help prevent catastrophic fires started by power lines.

Catastrophic fires started by power lines is a large growing problem in the world today. Climate change is creating conditions in many places that traditional protection systems cannot handle. One example of this is Victoria, Australia where almost 200 people died from catastrophic bushfires in 2009 that were proven to be caused by power lines. A more recent example is the terrible fires in California in 2018 and 2019, these fires cost almost 100 deaths, also caused by power lines. In addition to the lives lost, the monetary damages are enormous, in the billions of dollars. However, what might be worst in the long term is the enormous release of CO2 these fires cause.. That power lines need better protection is clear, and this is what the Ground Fault Neutralizer [GFN] offers. The GFN can detect the faults, where traditional cannot (by being 25 times more sensitive), the GFN can neutralize these faults ultra fast before they ignite a fire, where traditional protection is to slow and cannot prevent ignition. The GFN is made up of three components (a high voltage device, power electronics and a control cabinet that uses advanced algorithms). The GFN is installed in the substation and protects the entire grid from one point. The GFN is proven technology, already protecting the communities in Victoria, Australia as a result of the REFCL program.
