About
Urbanization is leading to growing cities and shrinking spaces for flora and fauna, which negatively impacts our health, comfort, and the environment. Respyre has developed a solution by developing bioreceptive concrete that supports moss growth on horizontal and vertical surfaces in urban areas. This technology helps combat problems like the urban heat island effect, flooding, and poor air quality by turning unused surfaces into green spaces using recycled concrete aggregates and natural products.
Moss provides numerous benefits, including pollutant removal, water absorption, increased biodiversity, noise reduction, and cooling. Its aesthetic appeal and protective properties extend the life of existing structures. Respyre’s vision is to create healthier, more sustainable urban environments.
Originating from TU Delft, this bioreceptive concrete has been successfully demonstrated in labs, with ongoing projects validating its effectiveness in real-world settings.
