About

Plastic Odyssey aims at reducing ocean plastic pollution by developing low tech and open-source plastic recycling technologies, adapted to emerging countries. Three innovations are developed to respectively sort plastics, recycle them into objects (bricks, tiles etc) and turn them into fuel. These systems will be embarked on a 25-meter vessel that will be solely powered by plastics. The waste will be harvested onshore at each port of call, then stored onboard, to finally be turned into fuel to power the ship’s engines. The vessel will achieve the first round-the-world expedition using plastic waste as a fuel, to show that it is too valuable to enter our Ocean. Behind this challenge, the expedition is a unique opportunity to face realities on the ground even in the most remote areas and adapt the solutions to local needs. Plastic Odyssey’s end goal is to disseminate these solutions all over the world to support local economies while cleaning up our environment.
