Pipistrel d.o.o. is a Slovenian small aircraft manufacturer established in 1989 by Ivo Boscarol and is based in Ajdovščina. Pipistrel’s portfolio clearly conveys the ability of commercializing the knowledge learned in either in-house or European funded projects, making PVS a unique institution, showing competence in bringing academical research breakthroughs to the market. Provoking the aerospace sector in such a way benefits not only the partners involved in funded projects, but also the European Union through rapid materialization of abstract methodologies and technologies. Pipistrel is globally recognized as a high efficiency aircraft designer and manufacturer for gliders and small aircraft. For the past 12 years, Pipistrel has been at the forefront of electrical aircraft design with the world’s first two seat electric aircraft – Taurus Electro in 2007, the world’s first four seat electric aircraft – Taurus G4 in 2011, the first serial production electrical aircraft in the world – Alpha Electro in 2017. In the first half of 2020 PVS is expecting to receive the world’s first type certificate for a two seat electric airplane – VELIS ELECTRO. Pipistrel is currently also researching hydrogen fuel cell integration, hybrid propulsion technologies, distributed electric propulsion and eVTOLs in various projects.
