OXTO Energy’s purpose is to radically transform the way energy is stored in order to meet the worlds’ ever-increasing demand for more and cleaner energy. OXTO has developed a new clean mechanical battery, made of steel totally recyclable, climate agnostic and with unlimited cycles, to deliver safe, scalable and lowest cost power storage solutions. OXTO’s technology uses the principles inherited from previous successful deployments in satellite: simple design with fewest possible components, robust device with very limited maintenance over a long lifetime of 25-30 years. The design allows for working alongside any power application from wind turbines and heavy-industry to EV-charging infrastructure. Our solution addresses the following challenges: • EV charging infrastructure: the electrical grids as they were conceived cannot cope with a future dense EV infrastructure. The problem is the power required to simultaneously charge several vehicles or to fast charge vehicles. Our solution is a power buffer to any grid connection. • Smart Grid and Distribution: our solution addresses issues of inertia, voltage support (e.g. over-voltage raised by solar power plants). We combine our solution with other technologies to make an overall smart grid (solar, wind, flow batteries, compressed air, EV charging…) • Storage and flexibility: our solution provides flexibility by making renewable power plant the next generation of autonomous power plants. By combining a means of renewable energy and storage technologies to our flywheel solution, we can create a stand-alone power plant that meets the challenges of the energy transition in the world. Flywheels will hence foster integration of REN and help cope with the EV charging infrastructure, whatever the grid connection. It will clearly reduce air and noise pollution. Impacts: reduce the energy bill of communities (expensive fossil fuel); Reduce GHG emissions; reduce noise pollution (motorbikes, rickshaw, bus… with petrol engines); reduce water contamination (risk of fuel leakage from gas motorbikes maintenance) by fostering the electrification of transports.
