About

MPower revolutionises energy access in emerging markets by providing SME's and households with medium and small-scale solar solutions. The team has built a B2B platform to deliver green energy and cleantech products to Africans living in hard-to-reach and per-urban areas. As such, MPower combines cost effective, high quality solar products with affordable financing for end-users while optimizing operations for distributors using its inhouse software solution to make products accessible to all. We use a technology-agnostic sourcing model and offer our customers a wide range of high-quality product options that respond to their needs. Key to scale is our software and data solution: Our software gives us increased control and insights into our partners’ operations, automates Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and reduces inventory costs by digitizing logistics management, thereby increasing operational efficiency. We began operations in 2018 in Zambia, and have since expanded into 6 additional countries across Africa (Togo, Cameroon, Ganha, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Botswana). We work closely with distribution and financing partners in order to provide products and accessible financing to end users, and minimize credit risk. Up until today we have grown to be a team of 35 people across the different locations and are supported by leading stakeholders including responsAbility (TA Facility), the Technology Fund (debt) and we participate in Google for Startups’ Advisor program for SDG startups. Existing shareholder include South Pole, Innovationsfonds (Alternative Bank Schweiz), InnoEnergy and some leading angel investors. MPower is financed through funds from South Pole, InnoEnergy, the Technology Fund, SIMA, REPIC, angel investors and the Innovation Fund of the Alternative Bank Schweiz. MPower is supported by various entities, such as responsAbility, Power Africa, Get Invest, IE Business School, venture lab, REPIC, Climate-KIC Accelerator, Venturelab Switzerland, and it won the Greentech Challenge. It was also awarded the Efficient Solution label from the Solar Impulse Foundation in April 2020 and secured a TA Facility by responsAbility AG. Furthermore, MPower has received funding from the Swiss Capacity Building Facility, the Austrian Development Agency or UK AID.
