About

MAREL is developing modular power sub-systems (power-stacks) that will enable a new generation of power inverters that are compact, re-usable, upgradable, resilient against die-supply shortages, and can be manufactured faster and cheaper. Batteries store power in DC (Direct Current) form, but higher power applications require AC (Alternating Current). As the world races to generate clean energy and to electrify industry, transportation, and homes, it creates a huge demand for electric power converters. Widespread adoption of clean energy requires that these converters be simple, scalable, reliable, and cost-effective. The advancement of power inverters has been slow and incremental as design and manufacturing is complicated by custom subsystems and delicate integration of high-power electronics, material science, mechatronics, manufacturing and thermal management. One of the key metrics of performance is power density, an indicator of performance, function and efficiency. This can only be realized through pushing the boundaries of thermal management and electrical design. MAREL’s focus is the power stack, which is the critical and expensive portion of the inverter. MAREL’s technology innovation will deliver a highly compact and configurable power stack to enable new and better electrification experiences.
