Nitrogen and phosphorous are nutrients and their presence in wastewater combined with climate change are accelerating the proliferation of algal blooms around the world. Wastewater treatment plants are one of the main sources of these nutrients and they were not designed to treat them. Available solutions for the removal of nitrogen and phosphorous would double the size of the treatment plant and would increase the use of chemicals. Kourant inc. owns the worldwide marketing rights of an innovative and patented technology that would solve this problem without increasing the size of the wastewater treatment plant and without using any chemicals... just with an electrical current.
