About

HYCCO is a French start-up that develops an innovative process to manufacture a key component present in most hydrogen systems, from fuel cells to REDOX flow batteries. Hydrogen fuel cells are now commonly admitted as necessary in order to reach the Paris agreement and reduce green house gases emissions from highly emissive sectors, like heavy mobility (bus, train, airplanes, trucks, ships). But to be competitive, hydrogen fuel cells need to extend their life time, reduce their weight, while being compact. As of today, unfortunately, current materials can not fulfil all those targets at the same time. Bipolar plates represent 70% of the fuel cell stack system, for 30% of its cost, and are the main reason for low durability of fuel cell stacks. HYCCO has developed high-performance composite bipolar plates that are thinner, lighter and more resilient than any other available materials. This disruptive solution helps hydrogen systems to reach their technical and economic viability for a large-scale deployment. Compared to metallic solutions, which are currently used for mobility applications, HYCCO's technology lasts 4 times longer, while dividing the system weight by 2, without compromising the compacity of the system.
