Intelligent waste and data collection technology at the city-sea interface
About
Each time it rains, coastal towns dump waste, plastic and other emerging pollutants directly into the sea via rainwater outlets on land and underwater: 80% of the macro-waste discharged into the sea comes from land. As a result, the Mediterranean is one of the most polluted seas in the world, and current solutions for recovering scattered waste, whether on land or at sea, have shown their limitations. At the city-sea interface, our innovative solution collects waste where it is concentrated, before it reaches the sea, by making rain an ally: a net attached to the outfall using a patented collar, fitted with a real-time monitoring system, collects the waste without putting a strain on the network. The system is installed and maintained by highly qualified personnel capable of working in hyperbaric environments that are difficult to access. Each underwater outfall equipped with our solution is also a physico-chemical measuring station that improves our knowledge of the transfer of emerging pollutants with a view to proposing solutions for their treatment in the future.
