About

Far-offshore wind energy is the second greatest renewable energy potential on planet Earth. It has been estimated that its potential is several times the global energy demand. The wind resource quality in the far-offshore is exceptional when compared to other regions globally; both in its magnitude and constancy. Yet, it is left unexploited as it cannot be harnessed with current offshore wind turbines technology. Farwind energy has developed a solution - the energy ship - to enable conversion of this vast resource into clean fuel. The energy ship is a ship propelled by wind and which generates electricity by means of water turbines attached underneath its hull. The generated electricity is converted into clean fuel using an onboard power-to-liquid plant. The fuel produced by Farwind's energy ships is methanol, which is compatible with existing infrastructures and uses (mobility, industry). Thus, Farwind's can enable a transition from fossil liquid fuel (oil) to GHG-free energy.
