ecoBirdy creates vividly unique products that capture the story of raw plastic while raising awareness for circular design.
The Antwerp-based company not only creates design pieces but developed a whole system that collects and recycles old, unused plastic and redesigns it into modern and innovative top-tier furniture.
Following an in-depth two-year study period exploring how to sustainably recycle plastic, ecoBirdy started to create beautiful design pieces that are 100% made of recycled plastic waste and can easily be recycled again.
It was essential to the founders that each step is grounded in fair business practices. In the manufacturing process, the company employs individuals from local shelter workshops to provide manual labour. They play a significant role alongside machines in manually checking every single item that will be recycled.
Due to this accurate sorting, cleaning, and grinding during the recycling process, the plastic of all products is free from harmful chemicals. It is clean, pure, and 100% safe. Thanks to this speckled look, all pieces are strikingly beautiful and tell the story of the easily recognizable plastic. The high-quality design speaks for itself, with a sleek and smooth silky surface each furniture piece is pleasant to the touch and easy to clean. Each piece is unique, and no two products are the same, guaranteeing an original exclusive product every time.
For their first collection, the company partnered with educational institutions and created an entire system that not only collected and transformed pieces into vibrant children's furniture but also raised awareness of the importance of recycling. An accompanying storybook and school programme were designed to introduce youngsters to the circular economy and inspire them to contribute to a more sustainable future.
EcoBirdy is in the business to transform plastic waste, inspiring all generations to think of waste with intention.
The company is actively looking to grow its partnerships with other industries that need to expand its environmental impact with future collections.
