Cearitis is a start-up created in March 2020 that proposes a biological alternative to insecticides to protect crops from pests. Cearitis focuses its work on protecting cultures from fruit flies. Indeed, female fruit flies destroy between 5 and 30% de worldwide crops. Because our grandfathers were olive growers, we decided to first protect olive trees from the olive fruit fly, which is the pest that destroyed our familial olive orchards in Italy. We implement on orchards a repellent and an attractant system to respectively deviate flies from a culture and attract and trap them outside of it. Today, we validated our technology on the lab, finalised a first prototype and have patented the technology in 2020. In June 2021, Cearitis will launch a first field trials campaign to validate the efficiency of the technology on an orchard. Cearitis is incubated at Genopole (Evry – France), is rising funds with Business Angels and is discussing with an agroindustry to accelerate the development of the technology.
