About

Through its miniaturised Fluidised Bed Technology (“FBC”), BHSL has developed over the years a unique combustion technology allowing to burn low value, low calorific organic fuels. The technology was originally developed to convert poultry manure into energy in a closed loop system but it is now used in much wider applications such as for example municipal and industrial waste water sludges, meat and bone meal from rendering plants, organic fines from municipal solid waste or anaerobic digestor residue which are otherwise too difficult to burn in a traditional boiler. BHSL technology’s innovative aspect lies in the miniaturisation of the fluidised bed combustion, which otherwise exists in the form of large incinerators (10 to 1000 times bigger). With increasing environmental regulations, this allows BHSL to propose suitable local, low carbon solutions (less transport of material, smaller equipment) to dispose of waste, whilst adding value through the production of heat, electricity and a high quality ash containing phosphorus and potassium.
