A pioneering vision

Bridging the gap between ecology and economy

One of the first to envision ecology through the lens of profitability, Bertrand Piccard has always advocated that protection of the environment would become a reality only if it was perceived as economically viable and requiring no financial or behavioural sacrifices. He actively speaks out against the absurdity of old and polluting devices and systems, and promotes the benefits of new existing efficient technologies and solutions to motivate governments and industries to take action. A way to prove that solving climate change – rather than an expensive problem – is a fantastic market opportunity.

We need to embrace clean technologies and efficient solutions, because they are much more than ‘ecological’ , they are ‘logical’. They create jobs and generate profit, while also reducing CO2 emissions and preserving natural resources. Even if climate change didn’t exist, they would make sense. Clean growth is much better than the dirty status quo we have today."

Bertrand Piccard

An explorer of new ways of thinking

A family legacy of scientific adventure and protection of the environment

It is in Bertrand Piccard’s education to push back the boundaries of the possible, as he did with his two round the world flights, non-stop in a balloon and more recently with a solar powered airplane. With his dual identities as psychiatrist and explorer, he constantly sets out to challenge certitudes and habits, and advocates for a pioneering spirit to solve the challenges of our times. Over the years, Bertrand has become an influential voice heard among the most distinguished institutions across the globe as a forwardthinking leader for progress and sustainability.

A first for energy

Around the world without fuel, a message of hope

Solar Impulse demonstrated how clean technologies and renewable energy can achieve the impossible. Electrical motors with 97% efficiency, LED lamps for lighting system, extremely efficient insulation foam reducing energy consumption for houses, lightweight materials, high energy density batteries, ultra-thin solar cells and smart energy management, are just a few examples of solutions that can be used, not only in the air, but also on the ground. It’s now time to take the adventure further, for the benefit of both people and the planet.

A new challenge #1000 solutions

To help decision-makers adopt more ambitious energy policies

The Round-The-World Solar Flight was only the first phase in the realization of Bertrand Piccard’s vision. The Solar Impulse Foundation -through the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions - has launched the second phase of its action It has already set off to tackle a new challenge: selecting #1000 SOLUTIONS that can protect the environment in a profitable way. Bertrand will then go around the world again to deliver these solutions to governments, corporations and institutions to help them achieve their environmental targets by adopting more ambitious energy policies.
