500 Solutions Labelled!

We’re halfway through our #1000Solutions Challenge and we’d like to share with you some of the insights we’ve gathered through so many interesting applications.

Two years after the launch of the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label, we’re thrilled to announce that we have labelled over 500 solutions. Whether they come from major cities or remote islands; are developed by big corporates or small startups; reduce waste, improve industrial processes, use clean energy, lower carbon emissions or promote a circular economy; operate in the sectors of water, energy, agriculture, smart cities or mobility… They all share one thing in common: they are all clean and profitable solutions.

As we reach this new step, we decided to take a look at some of the data we collected through all these applications to get a better understanding of the profile of our portfolio, giving a more precise description of what these solutions are, where they come from and what they are looking for.

Key information:

- We need water solutions! Today, only 11.2% of our solutions are in the field of “Clean water and sanitation” (SDG 6). However, ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all is becoming one of the biggest issues of our time and is a priority. If you have a solution in this area, we want to hear about you.

- Maturity is the key! Our Label is aimed at showing to decision-makers that profitable solutions to protect the environment already exist, are on the market and ready to be used. This is why 74.4% of the labelled solutions are already commercialized. To apply to the Label, make sure your solution is at the right development stage.

- Internationalizing the portfolio! While the 500 solutions come from over 50 countries around the world, Europe is still overrepresented (80.6% of our solutions are based there). We know there are great solutions on every continent, and we’d like to get more of them in our portfolio. North and South America, Africa, Asia and Oceania Solutions: we encourage you to apply to the Label! 

This milestone is also an opportunity to thank all the people who have helped achieve it: our community of over 400 Experts who have dedicated their time to assess thousands of solution applications; our partners for their support; and, last but not least, all the companies who applied to the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label.
