Helsinki Energy Challenge

Helsinki Energy Challenge

Past

Call for energy system solutions: this is a global 1-million-euro challenge competition to answer the question: How can we decarbonise the heating of Helsinki, using as little biomass as possible? SIF can help you to apply!

The climate crisis is the most crucial challenge of our time, and cities have a key role in driving the shift to a low-carbon economy. Helsinki is one of the leading cities in the transition towards a sustainable future, with the goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2035. But there is an issue to overcome. Currently, more than half of the city’s heat is produced with coal. Now the city is looking for radically new solutions to meet Helsinki’s heat demand.

The city is aware that one solution alone cannot solve this. If you are interested in applying, Solar Impulse Foundation can help you to get in touch with other interested solutions in order to assist you with a joint application. First co-design meeting for interested solutions was organised on May 12th. To complement the existing solution group, we are currently looking for solutions in the following fields:

  • Clean energy production
  • Transmission line innovations

NEXT STEPS:

1. Express your interest for a joint application by contacting Tanja Tanskanen at tanja.tanskanen(at)solarimpulse.com or +41 79 123 46 12.

2. Receive useful documentation and the connection information to our next online webinar on May 28.

3. Join our  webinar on May 28 - 4 p.m. CET and connect with other potential solutions.

4. Create a joint application with the help of Solar Impulse Foundation.
