Wave Bumper is a fully flexible flood defence system that is designed to protect the coastline against the destructive impact of the sea. Wave Bumper devices are moveable barriers or ‘seawalls’ that can be rapidly deployed in zones where there is a risk of wave damage and flooding. They are simple to use, fast to deploy, and have no negative effects on the environment. A range of Wave Bumper devices have been designed to respond to a variety of different situations and challenges. The distinctive curved profile of the Wave Bumper cleverly deflects the energy of the wave away from the shore and back towards the ocean. This redirected energy slows down and reduces the impact force of the next wave thereby protecting the coastline as well as buildings and other structures that are at risk of damage and flooding. The Wave Bumper team have defined the exact specifications of the curved profile that are necessary to optimize the energy deflector effect for sea swell. An INPI patent for this technology is pending. To ensure that the Wave Bumper defence system is effective, it is essential to anticipate when and how it should be deployed. A specific forecasting and analysis tool is currently in development. This software will assess, in real time, the geomorphological and hydrodynamic factors affecting the area to be protected. This will enable the optimal dimensioning and positioning of the Wave Bumper modules for specific coastal areas.
