When an ice cleaning machine resurfaces the ice sheet of an arena, it uses ~ 720 to 900 liters or 190 to 238 gallons of clean water that has been heated to a temperature of 60 Celsius or 140 Fahrenheit while removing between 700 to 900 Kilograms or 1543 to 1984 pounds of compacted snow every hour, 16 to 24 times per day, 7 days a week only to have it constantly dumped outside of the arena building or into the local sewer system. The US and Canada have over 12,500,000 individual ice pads located within their area venues with many more facilities with multiple ice pads being built annually. Each of these ice pads require hourly ice cleaning maintenance by using an ice cleaning machine (a.k.a.: Zamboni, Olympia or Honda). These ice cleaning machines use ~ 720 to 900 Liters of fresh potable that has been heated between 140 ºF to 160 or 60 ºC to 70 ºC. More labor, material and energy is used to dispose of the approx. 60 cu. ft. or 1.70 cu meter of snow per cleaning or close to 2,500 pounds or 1,134 Kilograms of compacted snow every hour that’s collected during the cleaning only to be dumped into the local sewer system or outside into the parking lot area before having to deliver the discarded snow to a separate dumping area. This ongoing waste of fresh potable water occurs 16 to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and all year round in most locations. This ongoing practice of wasting energy and fresh potable water while contaminating the soil with bodily fluids, blood, paint and other contaminates that are recovered from the ice surface during each cleaning is used throughout the world and OWERS Water & Energy Recovery Systems will not only lead the change, but be the exclusive de-facto leader in this game changing technology, product line and services. This outdated process of constantly resurfacing a sheet of ice by using large amounts of hot water that is usually heated by using a fossil-based fuel produces large amounts of greenhouse gas and CO2 emissions that is then released into the atmosphere. OWERS’ exclusive patented products, services and technology can easily be installed and implemented in any arena or venue throughout the world, therefore eliminating this waste of water and use of fossil-based energy while providing value proposition for the arena owners while greatly reducing the venues carbon foot print. OWERS is presently submitting and expanding on patent pending technology on the following invention: A fixed or mobile water and energy recovery unit that can be used above or below ground, indoors or outdoors and our retrofit package with our technology to seamlessly convert an existing ice arena pit area. Environmental Benefits: Only using clean-green energy to melt and clean the ice and snow during the water recycling process while eliminating the ongoing use of fossil-based fuels to heat the water. The stoppage of continuously dumping snow and ice that has been contaminated by paint, chemicals, emission byproducts, metal shavings, spit, blood, sweat, vomit and other bodily fluids onto our local soil and/or into our local water table. Saving our most valuable natural resource, this being millions and millions of gallons of fresh potable water in order to constantly resurface thousands of ice sheets on a 24/7 basis. Financial Benefits: A 10 year product with a 2 to 3 year Return On Investment or sooner, depending on the existing heating system, source of energy and cost of water supply. This ROI can be even shorter if a disposal system for contaminated water is no longer required and government funding and or grants are available for reducing their carbon foot print. Not having to purchase and maintain expensive water heaters, water softening systems, salt/softener pellets and or a Jet Ice system that requires expensive and harmful chemicals. Energy savings by not releasing large amounts of heat from the arena into the atmosphere when constantly opening large bay doors. This is also true during the summer months when cool air is needlessly released. A longer life span and less maintenance cost required for existing arena HVAC systems. The wear and tear, maintenance and repairs to the HVAC system will be reduced by keeping the large bay doors closed and the system working more efficiently without the added strain. Having a better, harder and clearer ice surface due to lower contaminants and air in the water, therefore making it much easier and less expensive to maintain while saving on energy and wear and tear on the arena chiller/compressor system. By removing most of the contaminants and air in the water during the recycling process, hot water is no longer required to resurface the sheet of ice, thereby greatly reducing the cost of energy normally used during this process while no longer requiring expensive hot water systems that use fossil-based fuels. OWERS De-Bubbling Technology: Facilities can raise their ice temperature while having a higher quality sheet of ice, while lowering energy consumption, improving energy efficiency & reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Allows the water used during ice making and resurfacing process to be 60 degrees Fahrenheit / 15.5 degrees Celsius rather then the conventional 160 degrees Fahrenheit / 71 degrees Celsius.
