Omnisens' fibre optic based solution monitors the integrity of land and subsea power cables and enables energy actors to: - Improve the reliability of Offshore Wind Energy production, preventing outage that would come from a power cable failure (electrical fault, boat anchor drops, etc.) - Optimize the electricity transport through power interconnector links (e.g. between countries), which is key to support an increasing energy mix Technology principle: Most of the high voltage power cables embed optical fibres for telecommunication purpose. Our laser-based technology sends an impulse of light in one of these optical fibres and analyses the back-reflection of the light (also called "back-scattering") to calculate the accurate temperature, strain or vibration over thousands of points along the power cable. Such measurements can be performed up to hundreds of kilometers and are critical to detect events such as cable overheat (temperature), un-burried cables (cold spots), mechanical threat such as anchor dragging or fishing activities (strain) or electrical fault (vibration).

Omnisens' fibre optic based solution monitors the integrity of natural gas or oil pipeline to: - Minimize gas or oil leak environmental footprint along pipelines by detecting these from the very early stages - Prevent leaks by detecting external threats such as excavation work Technology principle: Pipeline are usually buried with optical fibres for telecommunication purpose. Our laser-based technology sends an impulse of light in one of these optical fibres and analyses the back-reflection of the light (also called "back-scattering") to calculate the accurate temperature, strain or vibration over thousands of points along the power cable. Such measurements can be performed up to hundreds of kilometers and are critical to detect events such as very small gas leaks (local drop of temperature by the Joule-Thomson effect), very small oil leaks (warm spots), mechanical threat such as ground movement or landslides (strain) or external threats such as excavation works or manual digging (vibrations).
