Microsol is a social business that aims at providing cleaner energy solutions to the poorest populations in Latin America, which are also the most vulnerable to climate change. Since 2008 and based on the mechanism of carbon finance, Microsol has the ambition of improving millions of people's lives by giving them access to clean cooking technologies, which it identified as a great entry point to address other issues such as access to clean water and sanitation, education, poverty and food security.
Today, it has developed knowledge and expertise for 10 years on energy solutions in rural areas in Latin America, and collaborates with local and international organizations from the public and private sectors as well as from the civil society. Its first Programme of Activities (which pioneered as the first improved cookstoves Gold Standard programme to generate carbon credits) is Qori Q'oncha and was acknowledged by the United Nations Development Programme as the best solution for poor families to access carbon finance. This first programme's success led to the creation of a 2nd programme covering Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. To this day, Microsol's programmes have allowed to avoid the emission of almost 2 million tonnes of CO2 and support around 700 000 people by improving their daily lives.
