UPanel is a sound-absorbing panel made of textile waste improving indoor acoustics in a simple and aesthetic manner.
Every year more than 40.000 tons of textiles are burned in Denmark alone. The garments come from both private households, textile manufactures and industrial textile suppliers. To eliminate the problem and realize the potential of the wasted resources, we need solutions to be implemented on a large scale. At Lendager Group, we have developed a resilient circular product from textile and prolonged the raw materials lifetime – while adding value as a sound-absorbing panel. What's unique about this panel is the composition of material type. The product is independent of the input material means no textile wasted. The process of turning the old garments into new panels is a simple 3-step production line: 1) shredding 2) heating 3) pressing it into the desired size and density. No toxic chemicals added. This process means that the panels work as a material bank, capable of being dismounted and recycled back into synthetic and organic fibers in the future. An initial Life Cycle Assessment concludes that the UPanel saves 50% CO2e per sqm compared to a generic mineral wool solution. Our suppliers of waste textile have committed to collaborate towards zero waste, helping to push resource efficiency among the other actors in the industry. The UPanel will launch in 2020.
