About

HONEXT® is an innovative Barcelona-based company that manufactures a carbon neutral, circular, biotech process that upcycles waste fibres into fully recyclable and non-toxic panels. Today, HONEXT® uses as main raw material the sludge waste from paper mills, which volume increases as paper recycling rates grow. Only in the EU, paper mills generate more than 7 million tons per year of this waste. HONEXT® Process is a zero-waste, resin-free, natural enzymatic treatment that maximizes the bonds between cellulose fibers, creating 100% recyclable fiberboards, which have no added emissions of VOCs like formaldehyde. The panels have a wide range of applications focusing on the interior built environment. HONEXT® was established in 2011 by the co-founders Pere Merino and Pol Merino, based on a research project from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. After 10 years of development, HONEXT® Panels are manufactured at no cost to the planet, in its first functional factory integrated in a landfill, in Vacarisses (Barcelona, Spain).
