About

EnKoat has developed exterior building envelope coatings based on its novel thermal storage Active Insulation™ platform technology through funding from the US National Science Foundation's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grant. Using this technology, our coatings are engineered with enhanced temperature regulating functionality to maintain occupant thermal comfort while reducing the amount of HVAC required within a building. In simplest terms, think of a coating with an embedded thermostat to help regulate internal temperatures using the surrounding ambient environment. These coatings are optimized and tailored for specific applications and climates to achieve maximum thermal performance benefits such as temperature regulation and energy savings (reduction in heating and cooling costs). Through lab-scale and small pilot experiments, we have demonstrated the coatings effectiveness at reducing and delaying peak temperatures significantly leading to heating and cooling cost savings up to 30%. The cost savings help the building owners/homeowners recover any additional investment in 2-5 years, thus making EnKoat an affordable energy-efficient solution.
