COP26: Solar Impulse Foundation presents Solutions to Scottish Government and Whisky maker Glenmorangie to help them meet their climate targets

Press Releases - November 04, 2021

The Solar Impulse Foundation, led by explorer and clean technology pioneer Bertrand Piccard, presented the Scottish Government and whisky maker The Glenmorangie Company with Solutions Guides detailing technologies and processes that could help the country and one of its iconic industries reduce their carbon footprints.

Glasgow, 5 November 2021 - With the 26th edition of the UN Climate Change Conference gathering in Glasgow, the Solar Impulse Foundation and Bertrand Piccard have selected clean and profitable solutions to help its host country and one of its most iconic industries pave the way to carbon neutrality. This selection comes in the form of a Solutions Guide, a 200-page report that proposes technological solutions that already exist today to protect the environment in a financially profitable way.

As part of the study, the Foundation looked at the Scottish context - its industries, specific challenges, and its ambitious climate plan for 2032 - and identified solutions whose implementation in the Scottish context would allow the country to reduce its carbon footprint while growing its economy.

Bertrand Piccard, Founder and Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation, said: “At the Solar Impulse Foundation, we admire the pioneering countries and corporations who set ambitious climate neutrality goals and want to support them by providing practical solutions that will help them in achieving their goals.”

Scotch Whisky is one of the most iconic pillars of Scotland's economy and reducing the carbon footprint of this industry sets a clear direction of travel for the country. Therefore, the Foundation has teamed up with The Glenmorangie Company, the Single Malt Scotch Whisky producer, a Maison within the LVMH group, to lead the way in showcasing how the industry's environmental transition can effectively take place. To this end, the Solutions Guide identifies technologies that could contribute to the company reaching its environmental objectives. These objectives align with Moët Hennessy's commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and the overall industry objective to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040, as laid out in the Scotch Whisky Association's Climate Strategy. The company welcomes SIF's proposed solutions and will investigate them as part of its overall Sustainability Strategy.

Antoine Arnault, Image & Environment, LVMH, commented: “The Solar Impulse Foundation proves not only that ecology is not opposed to economy, but that concrete solutions exist. At LVMH, we can see that they are applicable. The objective of our partnership since 2019 is to develop and apply solutions to fight global warming effectively. At the time of COP26 in Glasgow, the example of our Scottish Maison Glenmorangie is a perfect illustration of this.”

Thomas Moradpour, President and CEO of The Glenmorangie Company, said: “‘We are partnering with The Solar Impulse Foundation in looking for innovative solutions to our long term energy needs here in Scotland. The SIF approach serves to remind us all that there are exciting technologies emerging which benefit businesses in their quests to reduce carbon footprints.”

The solutions selected in the Solutions Guides are part of a much broader portfolio of 1000+ solutions that the Solar Impulse Foundation has labelled for being climate-friendly and profitable. Everyone can discover them in the Foundation’s Solutions Explorer.

About the Solar Impulse Foundation

The Solar Impulse Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by explorer and clean technology ambassador Bertrand Piccard. It identifies and promotes technological solutions that can protect the environment in a profitable way. In April 2021, the Foundation achieved its first goal of finding 1,000 solutions to receive the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label; since then, the database has been growing continuously. The Foundation’s labeling process is the only evaluation available today that assesses the economic profitability of products and processes that protect the environment in the fields of water, energy, mobility, infrastructure, industry, and agriculture. It is awarded following a rigorous evaluation process carried out by a pool of independent Experts and based on verified standards covering the three main themes of feasibility, environmental impact, and profitability. Bertrand Piccard brings these solutions to decision-makers to help them adopt more ambitious environmental targets and energy policies. The Solutions Explorer makes them available to everyone.
