Power Roll’s disruptive solar technology relies on a novel architecture utilising micro-grooves, thinner than a human hair, connected in series through a unique metallisation process. These micro-grooves act as a carrier for photoactive materials, and Power Roll is harnessing advances in perovskite technology inside this unique architecture to manufacture solar modules at a disruptively lower price point (leading to solar energy at a manufacturing cost of $0.03 per Watt). Power Roll’s Roll-to-Roll manufacturing process offers the prospect of the lowest cost of energy of any solar technology. Its solar panels are produced at 20% of the cost of the current market leader, and <10% of the equivalent lightweight flexible solar panels using standard technology. They have demonstrated a 20cm2 module and because of the unique nature of the architecture, this comprises 8,000 individual solar cells connected into 500 modules – not just one cell.
