Since everything is dependent on energy, we need to find alternative, sustainable energy sources to decrease the use of batteries. Our direct plasmonic light harvesting cell converts light into electricity using plasmonic nanoparticles as the active, photovoltaic material. Plasmonic nanoparticles can absorb up to ten times more light than other known materials. Since the Peafowl light harvesting cell is so efficient at converting the light it intercepts into electricity, it can produce electricity even when very little light is intercepted. This is the key to the ultra-high transparency of the cell. Low-power electronic devices that benefit from being self-powered, like sensors, e-paper displays and dynamic windows. Since our cell is entirely transparent (invisible) there are unique areas where we can add a design feature, beside the applications where total transparency is the only solution (e.g. infront of a display etc.).
