About

Orbital’s floating tidal technology is independently recognised as being a disruptive tidal stream technology with the potential for wide-scale deployment and is designed to be compatible with the vast majority of global tidal stream energy sites. As such, it has strong relevance for all those engaged in marine energy and within the wider renewable energy development and research community. The company is currently building the O2 2MW tidal turbine, which will be the world’s largest, most powerful tidal turbine when it is completed, and then launched, in Orkney in early 2021. The O2 is predicted to enable a massive cost reduction in electricity generation from tidal currents, with great potential to make tidal cost-competitive with other, less reliable, low carbon generating technologies.
