About

Soils are a fundamental component of green infrastructures, playing key roles in supporting plant growth, infiltration of runoff water, and macro/micro activities relevant to nutrient cycling and pollutant degradation in urban, mining, traffic, industrial, military and brownfield areas. To ensure the development of vegetation and offset the low fertility of urban soils, large quantities of topsoil are imported from surrounding agricultural or forest areas. Taking soil from rural areas for urban use is not sustainable as it is costly and comes with environmental risks: release of CO2, dust, petroleum consumption. Soil is not a renewable resource that can be excavated and easily transported from rural to urban areas without consequences. Also, the growth of urbanization increases the need for developing green infrastructure like parks, urban farming, side-street trees, … and human activities increase waste release, contamination, and soil degradation. Microhumus fights soils degradation and sealing by applying innovative solutions. Using locally available materials or waste such as construction demolition waste, Microhumus builds fertile soils while respecting local regulations. These soils are engineered and designed to provide several ecosystem services based of the client needs. Both phytoremediation and engineered soils solutions rely on huge amount of scientifically approved litterature and research collaboration with a large number (10) of international research institutes and universities around the world. Microhumus' services have already convinced many industrial groups including building (Colas, Vinci, Eiffage, Spie, …), Environmental Consulting (Ginger, Antea, Egis, EODD …), and industries (ArcelorMittal, SmurfitKappa, RTE, GRTgaz, …).
