About
Green Riders intends to disrupt the last-mile delivery market in Southern Africa and replace the majority of petrol and diesel driven motorbikes with e-bicycles (e-bikes) and e-motorbikes. We have a fleet of purpose-built e-bikes, custom-made for harsh African conditions with plans to introduce a fleet of e-motorbikes in 2023. We will be the market leader in e-mobility in Southern Africa through the supply and management of fleets of e-vehicles combined with our training programmes to upskill and develop thousands of previously unemployed youths to be delivery riders, thereby contributing to poverty reduction and substantially helping to reduce carbon emissions.
Our aim, within the next five years, is to replace the vast majority of ICE motorbikes currently being used in Southern Africa for the delivery market with our green e-vehicles, which are also cheaper to operate than the existing vehicles. Furthermore, through significant brand exposure – via the millions of deliveries we will do each month – our business will raise the level of awareness of e-vehicles in general, influencing strongly the move to using mobility modes which are far less harmful to the environment. We have partnered with one of the leading outdoor advertising companies in South Africa, AdReach. They passionately support our objectives and have committed millions of Rands worth of outdoor advertising and brand exposure for Green Riders during the accelerated roll-out phase of our business. This consumer brand exposure will help Green Riders to become a household name in South Africa as well as a leading brand advocate for climate change in Southern Africa.
Green Riders plans to have 50 000 Southern African delivery riders in our network over the next five years. The 2023 year-end goal is to have 3 000 Green Riders in the Western Cape and Gauteng provinces of South Africa and 10 000 vehicles by the end of 2024. Decarbonising the last-mile delivery sector is key to fighting climate change. With millions of last-mile deliveries taking place each year, ICE vehicles are contributing significantly to South Africa's carbon emissions. By replacing motorbikes with e-bikes and e-motorbikes, we can make a significant difference in reducing these carbon emissions.
Furthermore, unemployment in Southern Africa is at crisis level. Green Riders intends to train and skill thousands of people, not only as delivery riders, but also as support staff in technical, administrative and customer service positions. By contributing to job creation and poverty reduction on this scale, we will help to uplift thousands of families out of the cycle of poverty and place them in a position where they can become financially independent.
