About

EnZinc is an advanced battery developer founded by deeply experienced engineers and business people whose goal is to advance the decarbonization of the planet by bringing a safe, affordable, high performance battery to market.
The technology we have developed is a revolutionary high-performance rechargeable zinc electrode. The zinc electrode is a patented 3D metal sponge that allows zinc for the first time to be competitive with Li-ion performance and lead acid costs but is safer than both. The technology has been under development for 10 years with the US Naval Research Laboratory.
The zinc sponge provides an aperiodic continuously wired structure that prevents battery killing dendrites from forming; demonstrated in our one-year ARPA-E award. The sponge increases the usable reacting surface area which increases performance and cycle life over existing zinc particle anodes.
The 3D zinc electrode can be paired with different cathodes for different applications. The first version of the battery will be a nickel-zinc battery as nickel is well characterized and the battery can be brought to market quickly. The first applications will be urban electric vehicles and micro-grids for both developed and developing countries.
Our business model is to develop the zinc battery for a particular application, license the battery design to a battery manufacture with large scale manufacturing capability and established sales and distribution channels as well as supply the 3D zinc sponge anodes.
