With a staff of some 216,000 employees throughout the world, we generated revenue of 75,7 billion Euros in the 2018 financial year, about 66 percent of it outside Germany.* So that we can continue to be successful, we are already evolving from a traditional telephone company into an entirely new kind of service company. Our core business, i.e., the operation and sale of networks and connections, remains the basis. But at the same time we are proactively committing to business areas that open up new growth opportunities for us. More data, more speed The gigabit society, in which high-speed Internet is taken for granted both at home and on the move, has fundamentally changed the way we communicate. Internet applications have long become an indispensable part of everyday life. We can download films from the Web, watch soccer games on our cell phones, send photographs and video files from our smartphones and share them with our friends via social networks. In technical terms, this means that ever greater volumes of data need to be transported at ever higher speeds. A single source This calls for a Telekom that brings all these elements together and offers customers a fixed network, mobile communications, and IPTV from a single source. And a Telekom that ensures secure storage and access to all private data, wherever the user may be and whatever type of device they are using. But it also calls for ever more efficient networks. Deutsche Telekom can build these networks, which will not only cover skyrocketing demand for broadband in the future, but are also intelligent enough to open up new business areas to entire industries, such as the energy sector, healthcare, or the automotive industry. We are investing more in this than any other provider in Germany – more than 34 billion euros overall between 2010 and 2016. Integrated solutions for business customers With a footprint in more than 20 countries and some 38,000 employees (2018), T-Systems is one of the world’s leading providers of information and communications technology (ICT). T-Systems offers a range of integrated solutions for business customers, including the secure operation of legacy systems and classic ICT services, the transformation to cloud-based services (including tailored infrastructure, platforms and software) as well as new business models and innovation projects for the business fields of the future, such as data analytics, the Internet of Things, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and Industrial Internet. T-Systems can provide all this thanks to its global reach in fixed-network and mobile communications, its highly secure data centers, a comprehensive cloud ecosystem built around standardized platforms and global partnerships, and the ability to offer top levels of security. Our network can do more than just connect people. It makes our lives safer, promotes equal opportunities, and helps reduce energy consumption and conserve resources. For example, we help our customers reduce their energy consumption and conserve resources with smart products and services like SmartHome solutions. We protect the climate by reducing our own electricity consumption, for example with highly efficient data centers. We promote media literacy with a wide range of projects and initiatives, thus enabling children, young people, and adults of all ages to deal competently and safely with new technologies.
