SynchroGuard is a solution for smart grids which facilitates the integration of renewables and improves the electrical grid efficiency and reliability.
Thanks to the measurement devices and advanced data-processing algorithms, it provides utility operators a real-time view of the grid status. It enables safe integration of renewable energies and electric vehicles, by efficiently managing power flows. In addition, it improves grid reliability by accurately locating electrical faults in order to reduce the number and duration of power outages. SynchroGuard uses of synchrophasors that are very frequent and synchronized measurements of voltage and electric current. The goal is to support electrical utilities in the power grid modernization and digitization that is mainly driven by increasing power generation from renewables energies, electric vehicles, as well as stringent regulatory requirements.

SynchroGuard by Zaphiro Technologies
Implemented by Services Industriels Lausanne (SiL) in Lausanne (Switzerland) in 2022
The Services Industriels de Lausanne (SIL), conducted a pilot project starting in April 2022 with the aim to install Zaphiro’s SynchroSense and SynchroGuard Solution on four Medium Voltage (MV) feeders to monitor real-time events, locate faults, and increase situational awareness. Goal is to improve and accelerate the fault localization process and improve the SAIDI/ SAIFI indicators.
Result
Expected to decrease fault intervention time, to reduce costs by improving existing asset utilization, and to allow a larger share of renewables to connections
