#tide ocean material® by Tide Ocean SA implemented by Migros in Zurich (Switzerland) in 2023
All these novel attributes did not go unnoticed: Migros’ brand-new Handy Fresh Ocean was nominated for the Swiss Packaging Award 2023 for its innovative features.
#tide ocean material® by Tide Ocean SA implemented by Relianz AG in Bonstetten (Switzerland) in 2023
For now the bags contain 30% of ocean-bound plastic, but the next batches will be made from 50% #tide recyclate thanks to further development by Relianz.
#tide ocean material® by Tide Ocean SA implemented by Condor Group in Hasselt (Netherlands) in 2024
#tide has conducted an independent Lifecycle Assessment, comparing #tide's recycled PET and PP against virgin materials. And the study shows CO2-savings between 50% and almost 80%. #tide ocean material comes with built-in traceability. Our material flows are tracked through a blockchain-based system which allows us to provide digital material passports for our recyclates.
#tide ocean material® by Tide Ocean SA implemented by Motherson Innovation in Stuttgart (Germany) in 2024
A Life Cycle Assessment shows #tide ocean material polypropylene (rPP) has about half the carbon footprint of virgin polypropylene, offering a significant reduction in emissions for the automotive industry. Our project proved that large car parts can be safely made with high recycled plastic content, using ocean-bound plastic as a valuable feedstock. This initiative won the 2024 Sustainability Award at STARTUP AUTOBAHN by Plug and Play in Stuttgart, Germany.

A material resource made from upcycled ocean-bound plastic to help free the oceans from plastic waste
The oceans are suffocating, up to 10 million tons of plastic waste end up in the ocean every year. Most of the plastic is coming from land due to a lack of waste management and because the material is often considered worthless. We want to change this perspective and give value to waste in two ways: First, through technology: In collaboration with the Swiss University of Applied Sciences we have developed a mechanical method to bring plastic waste back to life as a valuable material resource, fit to replace virgin plastic in many applications. Second, we create value through social and environmental impact. We offer additional income to local waste pickers and fishermen in Southeast Asia and Mexico to collect the plastic. The plastic gets sorted and cleaned in social enterprises where we create more jobs and offer additional support such as housing, social security, and health insurance. Environmental impact is created through clean-ups and prevention of further pollution.
