Identification

The flat-packable solar thermal collector is cheap to manufacture, transport, and install.

SolarisKit is ideally suited to provide hot water for households (showering/bathing, cleaning, laundering clothes etc), business (hotels, ecolodges, pool heating etc), and industry (textiles, aquaculture, paper, etc.). It is a device which can be quickly assembled using simple instruction and used to convert sunlight directly into hot water. It has been designed to provide a new and affordable way to harness solar energy to heat water at up to 50 degrees Celsius, lowering users energy costs and carbon footprint. This technology allows regions all over the world to provide heat while reducing demand on gas and electricity from the grid. For a typical household, our solar heating solution can lower annual carbon emissions by approximately 7000kg over its 10 year lifetime while reducing electricity costs to meet hot water needs by 50-80%.

Implementation Stories

SolarisKit by SolarisKit Ltd
Implemented by Zima Homes in Nairobi (Kenya) in 2024

On 26th January 2024, the Solariskit team arrived at the Zima Homes Wangige site and installed the first array of 16 solar heating kits. One of the three key objectives of Zima Homes is to become climate-friendly throughout the project design, construction, and management phases. SolarisKit solution aligns with this goal by providing a unique solar energy solution that is different from traditional solar energy panels: easy installation and space saving design, efficient operations and maintenance, and cost saving.

Result

The SolarisKit solar hot water system installed at Zima Homes in Wangige Nairobi will save approximately 1MWh of electricity per month, reducing the energy costs for occupants living in this affordable housing project money while also lowering their carbon footprint. Zima Homes will continue to install 68 SolarisKits on the rest of Zima Homes blocks.
