  • Labelled Solution
Label Date March 25, 2022
From France
Maturity stage TRL 6 / 7 - Prototype demonstration 1:1

Tiamat's Na-ion power battery cell is responding to unsatisfied power needs thanks to its unique and patented Na-based active raw material. Offering superior safety compared to reference technologies, Tiamat's battery cell is also offering a long cycle life. These features allow (for example) automotive makers to reach CO2 emission targets by hybridising their Internal Combustion Engine vehicles with low voltage cost effective solutions. Using Tiamat's Na-ion cell allows better CO2 reductions by taking advantage of the unmatched high power offered by this technology. Finally, using a widely available raw material in Europe cuts the need to use rare earth minerals mined and shipped from many thousands of miles away, not only reducing emissions but increasing resource security.

The Environmental Benefits

  • Using Tiamat's Na-ion cells in a 48V automotive MHEV battery pack can save 2 million tonnes CO2 a year, compared to mainstream alternative
  • Doesn't require Lithium, Cobalt or Nickel to be extracted
  • In a Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle, this Solution delivers a reduction of 10% of petrol consumption compared to the mainstream alternative
  • Raw materials refined in Europe close to cell manufacturing, avoiding the need for shipping and processing of raw materials from thousands of miles away

The Financial Benefits

  • An automotive MHEV 48 battery pack is 1.5 times cheaper than the mainstream alternative
  • No additional CAPEX needed to produce Tiamat's Na-ion cell in an existing Li-ion Gigafactory
