Description

Genevos’ Hydrogen Power Module was chosen under the £2.2 million HIMET (Hydrogen in an Integrated Maritime Energy Transition) project to provide a zero emission auxiliary power solution which will be installed for demonstration purposes on the deck of an Orkney Ferry. The Hydrogen Power Module was chosen primarily due to its ‘plug and play’ marinised concept, integrating both fuel cell systems and power management. Led by EMEC Hydrogen based in Orkney, HIMET is one of 55 projects selected for funding under the Department for Transport’s flagship Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition, delivered in partnership with Innovate UK. The project will explore solutions for decarbonising ferries as well as shore-side activities in ports.

Impact & Result

Genevo offers a range of High Power Modules (HPMs) with capacities ranging from 15 kW to 45 kW, designed to be flexible and scalable for a variety of applications. These modules can be connected in parallel to provide zero-emissions power solutions, enabling the creation of larger systems with power outputs of up to 500 kW.

Solution Spotlight

The Hydrogen Power Modules (HPMs) developed by Genevos are a drop-in, zero emissions power solution for marine vessels. The modules are fully-integrated, marinised power packs capable of replacing existing fossil-fuelled engines and generators with a clean solution that is competitive on weight, motoring range, and cost of ownership. The HPMs offer a diverse range of applications to meet the reduction in emissions required across the maritime sector, from primary and hybrid propulsion in small to medium vessels, to powering auxiliary systems for large ships in order to reduce inshore and in-port pollution. The modular technology is highly scalable enabling it to meet the large anticipated growth in green hydrogen over the next decade, which will be vital to the decarbonization of the marine sector
