Pumpstation GmbH
Zurich
Pumpstation, a chain of 18 restaurants located in and around Zurich, introduced Wellcompost® single-use cutlery in collaboration with FluidSolids, following an 18-month development process. Designed to replace conventional single-use options made from bioplastics, wood, or paper, this innovative cutlery offers a genuinely sustainable alternative. It is manufactured using waste materials from the Swiss food industry, making it a pioneering solution in eco-friendly dining.
Mass production was set to begin in September 2022, with an initial output of 50,000 pieces per week, ultimately aiming to replace up to 2 million single-use plastic utensils annually, reducing waste significantly.
The technology aims at mass-producing parts entirely made from biomass. A technology to produce home-compostable and recyclable composites from residuals and waste streams. FluidSolids® biocomposites feature mechanical and ecological properties, making them suitable for use in countless application areas.
