Medical centers and hospitals are a great opportunity for energy savings in their commercial kitchens due to the long run time hours and quantity of cooking activity taking place. Lahey Hospital was no exception with 4 large kitchen hoods and 4 exhaust fans to move a large quantity of air all day long. The ECOAZUR standard system utilizing temperature and optic sensors was a perfect retrofit solution for this facility to ensure the exhaust fans and associated makeup air units would be able to modulate based on the varying cooking activity and operate on an as needed basis. With BACnet communication to the building automation system, bypass variable frequency drives, and a full turnkey installation, ECOAZUR will be continuously saving energy.
By operating at an average new fan speed of 55%, the system achieves significant energy savings. It reduces electrical consumption by 176,136 kWh annually, resulting in savings of $26,420 per year. Additionally, it provides heating savings of $22,022 and cooling savings of $780 each year. The reduction in CO2 emissions amounts to 418,768 kg annually, contributing to a more sustainable operation. Overall, the total savings amount to $49,222 USD per year.
