Description

Jungheinrich, established in 1953 and headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, is a global leader in material handling, intralogistics, and warehouse solutions. Specializing in forklifts, warehouse equipment, and automated systems. In 2022, Jungheinrich embraced digital transformation by introducing innovative solutions such as dynamic wireless charging using magnetizable concrete.

At its headquarters, Jungheinrich installed a dynamic wireless charging demonstrator, successfully validating the concept of charging with magnetizable concrete. This groundbreaking technology allowed product managers to evaluate both its technical performance and commercial potential, marking a significant step in the company’s commitment to shaping the future of logistics.

Impact & Result

Magnetic concrete is made from 100% recycled materials, including ferrite particles derived from e-waste recyclers. Magment offers cutting-edge magnetizable concrete and asphalt solutions, combining cement or bitumen with recycled magnetic materials, known as ferrites, as aggregates. In a crossdock business case, the return on investment (ROI) was projected to be 3-4 years, depending on installation and operational factors.

Solution Spotlight

The Solution is the enabler of wireless charging infrastructure for electrical vehicles (EV) at rest or in motion. The solution is based on a magnetic construction material made of recycled magnetic materials from electronic waste as aggregates of concrete or asphalt. Copper coils embedded in slabs of these materials generate magnetic fields to transfer energy safe and efficiently to receiver located at the bottom of the EV. This allows for automated charging in different situations such as cars during parking or forklifts during operation in a warehouse. The impact is for example to reduce the battery size of a bus or of the number of vehicles in a logistics fleet, making operations more sustainable and affordable.
