Identification

The Green Sugar solution modernizes outdated energy production sectors of sugar mills, optimizing green energy production and consumption, thus increasing their role in global energy production using renewable fuel and reducing their GHG footprint. The solution consists of supplying an integrated and customized solution package to modernize and optimize the energy production of individual sugar mills. The main goal is to optimize the efficiency of the biomass cogeneration thermal installation. The direct result of the modernization is to convert sugar mills from electricity consumers to electricity suppliers using the renewable fuel (bagasse) produced by the sugar-making process. By selling to the national electricity grid at a fixed price/kWh, the mill gets concrete results with a reasonable return on investment. The estimated annual economic savings are based on the fuel oil that is displaced by increasing the usage of biomass fuel.

  • The Green Sugar solution is targeting the heart of the sugar industry process, the efficiency of the biomass cogeneration installation
  • Minimal emissions for steam and electricity produced from biomass instead of fossil fuel
  • Minimal SO2 emissions for steam and electricity produced from biomass instead of fossil fuel
  • 3.24kg of CO2 emissions are avoided per kg of oil displaced
03.

The Financial benefits

  • The direct result is the extra electricity produced for the national grid, which is reimbursed to the mills at a fixed price per kWh
  • Payback time less than 2 years on average
  • For each MWh sold, 330L of oil is displaced
