Decarbonate Scope 3 Competitively

A new equipment to decarbonate Scope-3 profitably by recycling Scope-1 and 2 CO2 into bio green fossil substitutes

  • World Alliance Member
  • Featured Solution
  • Labelled Solution
Label Date March 25, 2024
From Switzerland
Maturity stage TRL 6 / 7 - Prototype demonstration 1:1

The solution substitutes fossils in scope-3 entrants by recycling CO2. The equipment turns photosynthesis into an industrial process: recyling industrial loads of CO2 on a real time basis by farming microalgae -cheapest and fastest natural CO2 sink- . The solution is versatile in terms of end products, efficient, with a high productivity per unit footprint and time & low cost (energy). It saves on land and on water usage compared to existing technologies. Market entry provides algae and extracts for the foods and feeds and fine chemicals industries (spirulina, chlorella etc), pharma (Carotenes, Omega-X fatty acids etc). As of 2027 an 11m3 reactor recycling 30 tons CO2/m2 footprint, same as 1hectare of forest, will produce bio-green entrants for bio-fuels, pesticides, fertilizers. The solution will contribute to a cluster of new technologies in Europe: LEDs & lighting, recycled bio-materials, technologies improving the collection of solar energy (Panels, hydro, wind)

The Environmental Benefits

  • Protein production x3 per day and per liter , pigment production x2 in the cultivated strains compared to state of the art
  • Delivers end products at 1/10th the manufacturing costs of competitive technologies, and 200 times the productivity in kg/m2 footprint
  • 100% remediation of CO2 from Scope-1 & 2 recycled into useful Scope-3 entrants for chemical industries and/or agriculture (circular economy)
  • Direct CO2 absorption of 1.6 kg CO2 net /kg biomass, and and indirect CO2 savings (scope-3 value chain substitution of fossils) of 3-5kg CO2 / kg end product
  • Saves on water by substituting animal proteins with microalgae extracts, through the production process and saves on land usage since the technology can be implemented on any surface

The Financial Benefits

  • Provides a 20% return on sales, and a 1 year payback to producers of microalgae
  • Transforms a cost (CO2 tax) into a profit stream by investing € 0.1 per kgCO2 treated, generating a 30% return on equity to the micro-algae producers
  • At € 1.2-1.4/kg biomass, provides end products at a competitive price against substitutes
