EPS55 bringt ein vollständig zertifiziertes (FOCA, EASA, FAR) elektrisches Antriebssystem (EPS) und Batteriemanagementsystem, das den optimalen Einsatz von Batterietechnologien auf sichere, saubere und kostengünstige Weise fördert.
EPS55 wurde entwickelt, um den Einsatz von Batterietechnologien für elektrisch betriebene Flugzeuge zu maximieren und zu optimieren. Die proprietären Systeme von EPS55 ersetzen den konventionellen, kraftstoffbetriebenen Flugmotor durch ein batteriebetriebenes System, das darauf abzielt, Kohlenstoffemissionen zu eliminieren und gleichzeitig eine saubere (keine Treibhausgasemissionen), leisere (Geräuschpegel unter 55 dB) und kostengünstige Alternative zu den aktuellen Antriebssystemen für Kleinflugzeuge zu bieten. EPS55 hat das Management und die Überwachung von Batteriesystemen perfektioniert und steuert die Lade- und Entladevorgänge, um den Antriebsstrang anzutreiben. Erreicht wird dies durch ein doppeltes Überwachungssystem (analog und digital), das über 100 Batterieknoten einzeln und mit unabhängiger Stromversorgung überwacht, mit minimaler Belastung durch Signalstörungen während des Betriebs. Das EPS55 überwacht die Batteriezellen unabhängig voneinander auf Überhitzung, Verschleiß und Fehlfunktionen und gibt sofortige Warnungen aus, sobald ein Problem erkannt wurde. Die gesamte Überwachung und Anzeige erfolgt über eine selbst entwickelte und patentierte Software und Hardware, die das Risiko von Signalstörungen während des Betriebs minimiert. Der EPS55 ist zunächst für den Betrieb von elektrischen Flugzeugtrainern (oder E-Trainern) vorgesehen. In einer zweiten Phase wird der EPS55 dann elektrische Senkrechtstarter und -landegeräte (eVTOL) antreiben.

Solar Impulse spin-off H55 has partnered with Harbor Air, the largest seaplane airline in North America, and magniX, a company specializing in electric motorization, to certify the first regional transport ePlane - the goal is to convert Harbour Air’s entire fleet to electric power. The companies will work with Transport Canada to certify the installation of magniX's electric propulsion unit and the latest generation battery system provided by H55, transforming Harbor Air's seaplanes into a fully electric commercial fleet; an important step forward in commercial-electric aviation.

Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) has selected H55 S.A., the technological spin-off of Solar Impulse, to provide the battery pack for the company’s regional hybrid-electric flight demonstrator program. H55 is the leading enabler for electric aviation. The core of H55’s product offering include a lightweight, modular, and certifiable energy storage and management system. Hybrid-electric propulsion technology is a core element of Pratt & Whitney’s strategy for continually advancing the efficiency of aircraft propulsion systems, in support of the industry-wide goal of achieving net zero CO2 emissions for aviation by 2050.
