Identification

Tysilio Solar Container (TSC) aims at providing reliable, clean and affordable electricity to remote businesses and infrastructures currently running on diesel generators in sub-Saharian Africa. The TSC replaces diesel by solar-generated electricity.

The cost remains competitive thanks to a full pre-design. Indeed, affordability is ensured by leasing schemes avoiding initial investment whilst generating immediate savings. The TSC is flexible over time as it can accept additional TSC, and can also be moved or packed back in the container and shipped to a new location. The robust design ensures a lifetime exceeding 20 years despite challenging weather conditions. The simplistic and low-tech approach is an integral part of the TSC development program so that it can be managed by the local partners or customers, using only standard available products. The TSC ensures knowledge transfer to the local population to increase their energy independence and promote economic and social development.

Result

This achievement demonstrates the feasibility of pumping large volumes of water (1,200m3) per day from considerable depths (120 meters) without emitting CO2. Consequently, the planet benefits from a reduction of 200 liters of diesel consumption daily, translating to a decrease of 528 kg of CO2 emissions per day.
